Wanted: A Vet Who Likes Wine, Cake, and Actually Enjoying Their Job!
Some vet jobs are like bad Tinder dates. They look great on paper, but once you’re there… yikes. We’re not like that. Promise.
Here’s the deal: We’re Canobolas Family Pet Hospital in Orange, NSW. We’ve got a clinic full of capable humans, a fridge full of cake, and a patient list that guarantees you’ll never be bored.
Why New Grads Love Us
- You won’t be abandoned to wrestle a vomiting Rottweiler on your first day.
- Our nurses and receptionists are actual legends — they run interference so you can be the vet.
- No local emergency centre = you’ll see it all (with backup), so your skills grow fast.
- You get to try everything before deciding where you want to specialise (or not — general practice here is never boring).
Oh, and Meet Dr Lisa
She’s been here for over 27 years, which in vet years is basically forever. Clients describe her as one of the most amazing vets in NSW (we’re not arguing), and she’s built a clinic where people want to work and clients send thank-you cards and chocolates. We’d love to get her “off the tools” a bit more so she can focus on mentoring — which means if you join us, you get a front-row seat to her knowledge, experience, and possibly her snack stash.

The Vibe
We’re a 5-vet crew with the best nurse and support team in Orange. We work in a big old federation building that has a lovely, homely feel with:
- 5 consult rooms
- Separate cat/dog wards
- Surgery, dental, x-ray & ultrasound rooms
- Most of the toys and lab equipment you need to have fun
- A staffroom with TV and cooking facilities to chill out
Also: Secret Santa is compulsory and birthdays are celebrated with cake!
The Perks
- $75K–$130K + relocation support (so you can buy more wine).
- Paid CPD + multiple learning platforms.
- Flexible rosters around your life.
- Cake. Did we mention cake?
- Cafés and coffee within walking distance.
- Orange = wine region, food scene, snow sometimes, events galore and four glorious seasons.
You Might Be Our Person If…
- You’re friendly and can smile (seriously, it’s our thing).
- You like learning, laughing, and maybe bringing cake sometimes.
- You want a job that feels less like work and more like a great place to hang out while helping animals.
- You value building rapport with clients
From One of Us
“I started as a new grad in 2017 and am only leaving to work overseas! I was never pushed into anything I wasn’t ready for, and the support and variety here are second to none.” – Dr Lauren Slater
