Canobolas Pet Hospital Newsletter

Well this March newsletter is better late than never. Apologies. We have a number of interesting topics though so we hope it has been worth the wait.

There is a chill in the air and with the chill rodents will be moving into our houses and sheds. One of our articles this month covers the rat bait problem.

Also with winter coming on, those with older pets might be interested in learning how to do PROM or passive range of motion exercises to help ease the pain of arthritis. We discuss it a provide a link in this newsletter.

Long time vet nurse at the clinic, Kylie McDonald, will be heading off yet again this month
in the interest of adding to her existing brood of Chelsea and Riley. Best of luck to her. If she were one of our patients she could have got it all over and done with in one go by having a litter.

Arthritis therapy

olddogArthritis in older dogs is generally a degenerative condition, that is, the joints have worn out with age or due to abnormal anatomy, like hip displasia. In addition to drugs there are some simple exercises you can do at home to help ease the pain and discomfort of arthritic joints.   Medicating cats

cartoon2

Giving a cat a tablet often means getting out the bandaids for the scratches and bites you receive. It isn't always easy to medicate cats. here are some simple tips......

ratRat bait poisoning

Rat baits are generally very tasty and very toxic. They are made from an anticoagulant which means they stop the blood from clotting meaning those poisoned by them bleed to death. Not a nice way to go.

Cat Myths
blue white cat The best myth about cats I have heard is that it is bad luck to walk through a river with a cat in your arms. Of course it is - the cat will hate it get scared and scratch you! Anyway there seems to be a real mythology around our feline friends and we found a great web site busting some of them.
